The Commission on Elections’ preparations for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections happening on May 14, are now on its final stages.
In an interview with DZRH, COMELEC spokesman James Jimenez said that filing of candidacy will start on Apr. 14, up to the 20th.
It will be followed by a mock elections so that the COMELEC will be able to figure out what the system would be like for the Brgy and SK elections nationwide.
According to Jimenez, the mock elections will be important because it has been awhile since the COMELEC did manual elections, which will be used for this year.
Jimenez added that campaign period will start on May 4 to 12.
The COMELEC official explained that it will be a little bit tricky for candidates of the SK elections because voters should be 15 to 30 years old, but only those ages 18 to 24 can actually vote.
The COMELEC also insisted that they are prohibiting the anti-dynasty on candidates for the SK elections, wherein any interested individual may not run if one of their family members is considered an incumbent official of the barangay.
