After six seasons of playing in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), celebrity baller Chris Tiu of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters announced his retirement from the basketball league.
Thru his Twitter account on Tuesday, Jan. 8, the 33-year old point guard of the Elasto Painters confirmed that he will no longer suit up for the upcoming 44th season of the PBA.
“My heartfelt gratitude to every person who has been part of my basketball journey!! Most especially to our Lord who makes all things possible. It’s now time to move on. My heart is full. #17 signing off,” Tiu said in his Twitter post.
Tiu started his career in the PBA after being selected seventh overall in the 2012 PBA Rookie Draft by the Elasto Painters.
Tiu won the 2016 Commissioner’s Cup championship with the Rain or Shine franchise. He also seized the PBA All-Star Three Point award and was included in the PBA All-Rookie Team during his first season in the league.
Per reports, the Elasto Painter offered a two-year extension to the contract of Tiu but the player opted to end his PBA career and instead focus on his business ventures.
