Dr. Cesar B. Chavez, assistant vice president for news and public affairs of Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC), was awarded the “Outstanding Alumnus Award” during the 52nd National Defense College of the Philippine (NDCP) Alumni Homecoming at Edsa Shangrila Hotel, Mandaluyong City on August 20.
The NDCP has managed to grow beyond its modest beginnings in the 1960s to train leaders in the military and civilian bureaucracy in strategic thinking. Among the past NDCP alumni awardees were captains of industries, justices of the Supreme Court (SC) and Court of Appeals (CA), lawmakers (senators and congressmen) and Cabinet Secretaries.
Chavez, a multi-awarded broadcast journalist and a multi-awarded student from high school to college, belongs to Master in National Security Administration (MNSA) class 35 in the year 2000 wherein he and Quezon City Mayor Herbert M. Bautista were classmates.
NDCP alumni represent a diverse range of sectors including cabinet secretaries and senior officials of national government agencies, Senators and representatives in Congress, Supreme Court, Court justices, chief-of-staff of the armed forces, senior officials of the PNP, local chief executives, chief executive officers of the academe, private sector, and civil society.
Also, an increasing number of foreign students from allied countries such as Australia, India, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Thailand also comprise the alumni association.
The event was part of NDCP’s 52nd Foundation Anniversary on August 4 to 20, 2015 with the theme, “NDCP: One with the Nation Towards ASEAN Integration.” (Joel C. Atencio)
