A barangay official may be put to jail if he fails to respond against illegal drugs.
Based on the joint memorandum circular being implemented by the Department of Interior and Local Government and the Dangerous Drugs Board, DILG Assistant Sec. Epimaco Densing said that part of the things that were discussed during the Cabinet meeting in Malacanang on Monday was the memorandum that will make sure that local government officials will take action against illegal drugs.
Under the said memorandum, all barangays nationwide are obliged to form its own program against illegal drugs, and specify the amount needed to fund the said project.
Densing clarified that in the past, you have to go through the city council to file a case against a barangay officer, under the new memorandum, you can immediately press charges against the barangay official who violates the said order.
