Chorale group DYCI Dagalak attributed their entry to the finals of the 2018 Manila Broadcasting Company’s National Chorale Competition open category to the good relationship between its members.
According to conductor Nelson Dela Cruz, the group competed in at least three different tournaments, including the MBC Choral Competition, since November, and this built the bond and chemistry between the members.
“We are bonded. We have been competing for how many weeks now, ilang competitions na ang nag-daan nitong mga nakaraan linggo. Ito na yung last competition namin, so mas bonded na yung grupo namin,” Dela Cruz said after the second day of the competition’s semifinals on Wednesday, Dec. 05.
“Iyon na rin yung strength talaga namin, chemistry,” Dela Cruz added.
Meanwhile, Claudette Cruz, a member of the DYCI Dagalak, also voiced her gratitude that the group gave their all-out support even though they were competing in different divisions. Cruz competed in the solo sing-out tournament and also qualified for the finals.
“Sobrang thankful ako kasi kahit sila din nag-cocompete, nagawa pa rin nila akong i-cheer na kahit ibang competition iyon. I love you guys,” Cruz said.
Cruz admitted that she felt pressured before performing in the stage but the tension she felt left her when she started singing her piece and just enjoyed the music.
She also said that she felt overwhelmed and happy that even the other groups started to cheer for her while she was singing.
“Kahit hindi ko sila kilala, nakikisakay sila sa akin so parang ang sarap ng feeling na nadadala mo yung audience,” Cruz said.
Cruz and the DYCI Dagalak will once again perform during the finals scheduled on Saturday, Dec. 08, and will compete against the other groups that emerged at the top during the semifinals, which started on Tuesday, Nov. 04, and will end on Friday, Dec. 07.
Aside from DYCI Dagalak, the St. Scholastica’s Academy Marikina Highschool Glee Club on Tuesday also booked a slot to the finals of the open category. Bagon Dagupan Children’s Choir, meanwhile, qualified to the finals of the Children’s division.
