San Miguel Beermen have tied the PBA Philippine Cup Final Series, 1-1, by beating the Magnolia Hotshots in Game-2 on Friday, May 3, at the Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.
June Mar Fajardo registered 16 points and 14 rebounds for the victory of the Beermen. Alex Cabagnot also gave 16 points as the defending champions avenged their Game-1 loss.
In the middle of the third quarter, Cabagnot and Christian Standhardinger started a 13-point run that widened the score gap, 74-55, and gave the lead to the Beermen for good.
The Hotshots attempted to make a late-comeback in the waning seconds of the game. However, the back-to-back baskets of Robbie Herndon and the lay-up of rookie Michael Calisaan only reduced the Beermen’s lead to a single digit.
Chris Ross and Marcio Lassiter each added 15 points for the Beermen.
Meanwhile, Ian Sangalang had 18 points and Jio Jalalon finished with 15 points for Magnolia. Paul Lee also contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds as the team failed to keep the momentum in the Best-of-Seven Final series in their favor.
Both the Beermen and the Hotshots will attempt to grab the lead in the Finals in Game-3 on Sunday, May 3, at the Araneta Coliseum.
