Militant group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) denounced the decision of the House of Representatives to downgrade the budget of the Commission on Human Rights for 2018 for a measly Php1,000.
Renato Reyes, secretary general of Grupong Bayan, the Php 1,000 budget is proof that the Duterte government has no interest in promoting human rights.
Reyes insisted that the actions of congressmen, particularly allies of President Rodrigo Duterte, are shameful since they are using their authority to punish the critics of the Commander-in-Chief.
Grupon Bayan fears that the Duterte Administration seeks to remove the Checks and Balances within the government.
Meanwhile, militant groups are preparing for a protest movement this September 21, the anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law by the late Pres. Ferdinand Marcos.
The upcoming rally will show their disapproval of the alleged return of dictatorship, and the unceasing killings.
