Batangas powerplants safe from 6.3-magnitude quake

Power facilities in Batangas remain in good condition despite the 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck near the town of Nasugbu Friday afternoon, the Department of Energy (DOE) reports.

According to the DOE, major energy facilities including the Malampaya platform were not affected by yesterday’s earthquake.

No reports of power outages in Metro Manila and Calabarzon (Cavite-Laguna-Batangas-Rizal-Quezon) are expected.

Authorities say that they have done various operational inspections and are proceeding with their everyday procedures.

Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi of the National Grid Corporation of The Philippines (NGCP) has ordered the continuous monitoring of the facilities for any possible electrical damages.

Nasugbu, Batangas was the epicenter of the 6.3 magnitude earthquake which was also felt in some parts of the Metro.
