‘I’m all for this’
This was the statement of basketball star Kobe Paras in his twitter account amid news that the ‘Gilas 23’ line-up will be joining the 2018 Filoil Flying V Preseason Cup that will start on April 21.
Paras is part of the said line-up that was unveiled by Philippine National Men’s Basketball team coach Chot Reyes for the 2023 FIBA World Cup that will be hosted by the Philippines.
In response to the player’s positive reaction to the news, Reyes revealed that the Gilas cadets will start practicing on April 11 for the summer basketball tournament, which will assemble various teams from collegiate leagues like UAAP and NCCA.
Other than Paras, also included in the ‘Gilas 23’ line-up are Robert Bolick of the San Beda Red Lions, Jaymar Perez of the Lyceum Pirates, Rodolfo ‘Jjay’ Alejandro III of the National University Bulldogs, Juan Gomez De Liano of the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons, Kenneth Tuffin of the Far Eastern University Tamaraws, Abu Tratter of the De La Salle University Green Archers, Ferdinand ‘Thirdy’ Ravena III, Kai Sotto, and George Isaac Go of the Ateneo Blue Eagles.
Previously, Reyes explained that the ‘Gilas 23’ will be competing in the FilOil Flying V Preseason Cup as part of their preparations for the FIBA World Cup that will happen in the Philippines in the next five years.
However, Reyes said that they have yet to finalized the line up for the pre-season cup but expects that all 23 players will be available.
Also, as part of the national team’s agreement, players can only play for the national team if there is no conflict with their home team.
