Film actor Baron Geisler and Kiko Matos met up with the media, during the Philippine Sportswriters Association’s forum on Tuesday, June 21 before their upcoming Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC) match on June 25 at the Palace Pool Club in Taguig City.
The MMA match stemmed from a brawl between Matos and Geisler at a Quezon City bar last May 26.
The two fighters admitted that they are new to the said sport. Baron said that though he started training “old school Taekwondo” when he was six years old, he only started his training in MMA a couple of weeks ago.
Meanwhile, Matos said that growing up in BF Homes, he was exposed to the sport of Jujitsu, and has training in Boxing. However, his MMA background started two weeks ago. He is currently training in Batangas.
Matos added that it is too soon to predict the outcome of the fight. All he knows is that “malakas ang kalaban, kaya kailangan natin pabagsakan.”
He also shrugged off criticisms from netizens, calling him the villain in this fight, stating that he has friends who continue to defend him and vouch for him.
Baron and Kiko’s special match aims to help raise funds to help political prisoners in the country.
The young actor said that he has been through a lot, with this fight, Baron said that he wishes to straighten his act, “gusto koi tama mga pagkakamali ko.”
Since starting training, Baron said that he has stopped drinking.
The proceeds of the URCC match will go to the Maricon Montajes project. The said project where it all started.
The URCC match between Baron and Kiko is scheduled this coming Saturday, at The Valkyrie, in Taguig City.
