Azkals rout Guam in 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers

The Philippine Azkals seized their first win in the second round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers by routing Guam, 4-1, on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Guam Football Association National Training Center in Dededo, Guam.

The Philippine national football team finished the first half of the game with a 2-0 advantage following a header from Angel Guirado in the sixth minute mark, and another goal from Patrick Reichelt in the 12th minute mark.

Guam finally scored their first goal in the game through a penalty kick by Marcus Lopez in the 67th minute of the game, 2-1.

However the celebration of the home squad was cut short, four minutes later, after Stephan Schrock scored a goal and brought the lead of the visiting Filipinos back up to two goals, 3-1.

Patrick Strauss secured the victory for the the Philippines after making their fourth goal of the Philippines, 4-1, in the 82nd minute.

The Azkals, now with a 1-1 win-loss record, prepares to host a game against China on October 15 at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod.

The home-and-away games also serve as a qualifier for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.
