The Philippine National Men’s Football team suffered a 2-1 loss to Vietnam in their first semifinals game in the 2018 AFF Suzuki Cup
A long pass from Doan Van Hau allowed Nguyen Anh Duc to knock the ball pass Philippine Azkals goalkeeper Michael Falkesgaard and score the first goal of Vietnam during the 12th minute of the game at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod.
The Philippine team tied the score before the end of the first half after Phil Younghusband broke free of Vietnam’s defenders and made a pass to Patrick Reichelt who delivered goal for the Azkals that got the home crowd cheering.
The goal by Reichelt also ended Vietnam’s record of zero goals conceded in the the tournament.
Vietnam immediately recovered their lead when a timely pass from Nguyen Trong Hoang gave Anh Duc the opportunity to score another goal for the visiting squad.
The Philippines made an attempt to score another goal but most of their shots were out of target. Vietnam also tried to increase their lead but the tight defense of the home team stopped all their attempts.
Azkals will have the chance to strike back against Vietnam when the two teams face one another at the Mỹ Đình National Stadium in Hanoi, Vietnam on Thursday Dec. 06.
The Philippine team will need to defeat Vietnam by at least two goals in order to secure a spot in the finals.
