The Ateneo Blue Eagles and De La Salle Green Archers refused to lend their collegiate players to be part of Gilas 23 in the upcoming 2018 FilOil Flying V preseason Cup.

This is according to Philippine National Men’s Basketball team coach Chot Reyes, who described the news as unfortunate.

Due to this, the Gilas cadets will miss the services of Ferdinand ‘Thirdy’ Ravena III, Matt Nieto, and Isaac Go of the Blue Eagles in the upcoming basketball tournament, which will start on April 21

While from La Salle, only Abu Tratter was included in the initial line-up for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, but the player has already graduated from the university.

Both Ateneo and La Salle will be competing in summer basketball tournament along with other teams from the UAAP and the NCAA.

Meanwhile, Ricci Rivero, who has allegedly left the Green Archers, is also expected to play for Gilas in the said tournament, even if he is not included in the said list of 23 players.

Kai Sotto, a player for the boys squad of Ateneo’s basketball team, is also expected to join Gilas in the tournament as he, along with fellow Batang Gilas Raven Cortez of De La Salle-Zobel, were invited to join the team’s practice.

Previously, Reyes announced that the Gilas 23 line-up will be playing in the Premier Cup as preparation for the World Cup on 2023 which we will be hosting.

However, as a compromise, the coach of the national team explained that collegiate players will only be included in the line-up of Gilas if their respective UAAP or NCAA team have no games during the same day.

The Gilas 23 will be facing Ateneo in the opening day of the tournament.
