After being inflicted with heartbreaking back-to-back losses, both at the hands of the De La Salle University Lady Spikers, the Ateneo De Manila University Lady Eagles are eager to regain their winning ways.
They battle the UP Lady Maroons in UAAP Season 76 women’s volleyball at 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 22, at The Arena in San Juan.
Powerhouse and UAAP host National University Lady Bulldogs try to stretch their winning run to six games when they face the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses at 4 p.m.
The Lady Bulldogs are in second spot with their 7-1 record. They are favored to pull thru in their battle against the Tigresses. Coming off back-to-back one-sided defeats to defending champion De La Salle, the Lady Eagles clash with University of the Philippines hoping to keep their grip on the No. 3 spot.
The Lady Eagles (5-3), who are two games behind the Lady Bulldogs, seek to move on from the consecutive defeats they suffered at the hands of the Lady Spikers in a span of a week.
The unbeaten Lady Spikers extended their winning streak to 24 games when they mauled bitter rival Ateneo De Manila University Lady Eagles 25-14, 25-14, 25-19. It was the second time in a week that La Salle inflicted straight set losses on Ateneo.
La Salle’s spikers in Abigail Maraño, Cyd Demecillo, Victonara Galang and Mika Aereen Reyes dominated at the net with their booming spikes to push the Lady Eagles back on their heels all game long.
Men’s volleyball action will pit UST against Far Eastern University at 8:30 a.m. and Ateneo De Manila against De La Salle at 10 a.m.
