Alab Pilipinas needed an extra period in order to give Chong Son Kung Fu its second defeat in the 2017-2018 ASEAN Basketball League.
During the game at the Sta Rosa Multi-Purpose Complex in Laguna on January 31, Alab stretched its winning streak to four after beating Kung Fu with a score of 94-91.
Reigning ABL local Most Valuable Player Bobby Ray Parks Jr. scored 31 points to lead the Philippine team in securing their second home victory.
Imports Justin Brownlee and Renaldo Balkman each gave 20 points for the home team who currently has a win-loss record of 7-4
In the side of the visiting team, Mikhael McKinney, Justin Howard, Anthony Tucker each contributed more than 20 points for the charge of the Chinese basketball team.
Three straight shots from beyond the arc by Josh Urbiztondo allowed Alab to seize the lead in the fourth quarter, but Kung Fu’s Howard was able to tie the score to 84-all, with eight seconds left in the quarter, in order to force overtime.
With seconds left in the extra period, Alab was leading by a single point, 92-91, and the visiting team had the chance to bring home the victory after a slip by Brownlee allowed Kung Fu to take possession of the ball.
Balkman, though, stopped the attempt of the Chinese team and was even able to score another two points in order to ensure the victory of the home team.
