Alab Pilipinas started 2019 with a 105-96 win over the Zhuhai Wolf Warriors on Sunday, Jan. 06, at the Lapu Lapu Sports Complex in Cebu.
Renaldo Balkman and Ethan Alvano each gave 21 points to keep the Philippine squad undefeated out of five games in the ninth season of the ASEAN Basketball League.
Josh Urbiztondo also scored 19, most of which came from outside the three-point arc, for the victory of the reigning champions.
Starting the second half with a 16 point lead, Alab Pilipinas continued to dominate the Wolf Warriors in the third quarter before the Philippine team widened the point gap by 28 points, 101-73 in the fourth quarter
A 12-point run in the waning minutes of the game allowed the Chinese Squad to lessen the lead of Alab Pilipinas to 10 points, 103-93. However, Alvano put a stop to the attack of the Wolf Warriors and kept the defending champions up by double digits.
Mike Bell registered 20 points and 13 rebounds for the Wolf Warriors that dropped to nine losses and one win in their debut season in the annual international basketball tournament.
Chen Cai also scored 20 points for the Wolf Warriors that seized a four point lead, 6-10, in the first minutes of the game.
