The Armed Forces of the Philippine requested that the Congress give them additional funds for the procurement of patrol vessels that will be used by the Philippine Navy.

AFP Spokesperson Brigadier General Restituto Padilla said that ships will be used to guard Philippine Rise, also known as Benham Rise.

According to Gen. Padilla, the Phil. Navy lacks the sea assets to patrol the wide coastlines of the country.

Padilla also doubts that the government can build structures at Benham Rise since the ocean is deep at the said underwater region

The Philippines losses an estimate of $ 30 billion per year due to illegal fishing and poaching by foreigners in the country’s territorial waters.
