Authorities will place numerous checkpoints and will implement a curfew.
This is revealed by General Restituto Padilla, spokesperson of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, following the placing of Mindanao under Martial Law.
Padilla also asked residents of Mindanao owning unlicensed firearms to surrender their weapons or else they will be arrested and punished.
According to the AFP official, the freedom of expression will still be honored even while the Martial Law is being enforced in Mindanao, except if it will interfere with national security, and endanger government troops that are chasing rebels and enemies of the state.
Padilla said that Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, and AFP Chief of Staff Eduardo Año will be the chief implementer of Martial Law, and will directly report, and receive orders from President Rodrigo Duterte, the Commander-in-Chief.
The spokesperson also promised the public that they have nothing to fear during the Martial Law.
“May I also emphasize that law-abiding citizens need not worry as this is aimed at lawless elements involved in rebellious activities.” Padilla told the public regarding the issue of Martial Law.
