A hat trick by Spanish striker Bienvenido Marañon carried the Philippines’ Ceres Negros Football Cup to victory over the home team Becamex Binh Duong on Tuesday, March 12, at the Go Dau Stadium in Thu Dau Mot, Vietnam.

Marañon scored the first goal of the game in the 26th minute after stealing possession of the ball from Binh Duong’s goalkeeper Bui Tan Truong and bringing it to the surprised Vietnamese team’s unguarded goal.

Binh Duong’s Wander Luiz tied the score 1-all in the 72nd minute with an assist from Veniamin Shumeyko.

The Philippine representatives regained the lead in the 74th minute after Marañon scored his second goal following a headed pass by Mahir Karic and a cross from Stephan Schrock.

After four minutes, Marañon assured the victory for Ceres after scoring his third goal thru a cut-back from OJ Porteria.

With this victory, the undefeated Ceres seized their second win in the group stage of the 2019 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup. The Philippine squad needs to top Group G in order to qualify for the knock-out stage of the tournament.
