ACT Teachers Partylist rep. Antonio Tinio has called for the increase in the salary of all public school teachers.
In an interview with DZRH, Tinio explained that through raising the monthly salaries of public school teachers, they could minimize their need to borrow money due to financial instability.
Tinio elaborated that from the basic pay of Php 19,600, they are seeking to increase teacher’s salaries by at least Php 25,000.
This came as the lawmaker’s reaction to the Department of Education’s step to deduct the salaries of public school teachers to pay for the agency’s debt in the Government Service Insurance System, Pag-ibig, and others.
“Problema nitong utang, di lang sa mga teacher yan, lahat ng government offices may ganyang similar situation. So yung basic, itaas natin yung sweldo ng mga guro meron kaming panukala, yung Php 19,600 gawing Php 25,000 a month,” Tinio told DZRH.
