Alliance of Concerned Teachers Partylist Rep. Antonio Tinio has admitted that he is disappointed with Deparment of Budget and Management Sec. Benjamin Diokno, who is now considered as Enemy No.1 of teachers.

This is due to the statement of Diokno that the wage hike for public school teachers is not the priority of the DBM.

In an exclusive interview with DZRH, Tinio pointed out that it was President Rodrigo Duterte who ordered the Budget secretary to find funds for the salary hike of public school teachers.

Tinio said during an interview with DZRH.

Tinio explained that, based on the Salary Standardization Law, teachers should have similar salary with that of police officer 1 and nurses.

So around Php 29,000 a month.” Tinio insisted.

The congressman also insisted that the salary hike for public school teachers is an urgent need since it is expected that prices of goods will increase due to the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Law.

Tinio further added.

Tinio also admitted, that other than Diokno’s statements on the pay hike for public school teachers, they are also concerned with the budget offical’s position on the allowance of teachers, increasing the pension from the Social Security System, and the free tuition for state universities and colleges.

Tinio further added. “In other words, as far as we are concerned, talagang may pagka-kontrabida itong si Sec. Diokno kapag usapin ng mga patakaran para sa kapakinabangan, whether ng teachers o mamayanan.”
