After the controversial issue of using the word “Bagani” for a teleserye, ABS-CBN, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and Indigenous People communities have all agreed to be partners in educating the Filipino audience about Filipino culture and its roots from Indigenous Peoples.
According to ABS-CBN’s statement, all parties have come to an understanding that the use of “Bagani” was in good faith.
Moreover, the network said that they have been showing disclaimer before airing the program, claiming that the story is described as fiction.
As an addition, they clarify that they adopt the elements of Filipino mythology and folklore as an inspiration, and they are not pertaining to any indigenous group in the country.
ABS-CBN also stated that they are not disrespecting the culture and even the beliefs of the indigenous people because they highly recognizes the importance of Bagani to the Indigenous Peoples’ culture and history.
