Filipino cyclists managed to rule both men’s and women’s division of the mountain bike downhill event of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games held on Monday, Dec. 2, in Laurel Batangas.
Lea Denise Belgira added another gold medal to the haul of the Philippines by topping the women’s division with a time of three minutes and 9.781 seconds.
Belgira bested Tiara Prastika of Indonesia who seized the silver medal with a time of three minutes and 16.986 seconds, and Vipavee Deekaballes of Thailand who placed third with a time of three minutes and 17.607 seconds.
John Derick Farr completed the sweep after claiming the gold medal in the men’s division by finishing the race with a time of two minutes and 41.143 seconds.
Fellow Filipino Eleazar Barba Jr. seized the silver medal after clocking in two minutes, and 42.503 seconds, while Andy Prayoga of Indonesia took the bronze medal with a time of two minutes and 47.868 seconds.
On Sunday, Dec. 1, Filipino cyclists Niño Surban and Edmhel John Flores claimed the silver and bronze medals, respectively, in the men’s division of the mountain bike cross country competition in Laurel.
Surban, had time of one hour, 36 minutes, and 23 seconds, and Flores, who had a time of one hour, 36 minutes, and 41 seconds, fell behind Keerati Sukprasart of Thailand, who claimed the gold medal with a time of one hour, 36 minutes, and 15 seconds.
Avegail Rombaon, meanwhile, took home the bronze medal in the women’s division with a time of one hour, 48 minutes, and 54 seconds.
Dinh Thi Nhu Quynh of Vietnam got the gold medal in the said event after finishing the race with a time of one hour, 36 minutes, and 43 seconds, while her teammate Ca Thi Thom clocked in one hour, 44 minutes, and 19 seconds to win the silver medal.
