President Rodrigo Duterte will also give cash rewards to Filipino athletes who won medals at the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia.
During a press conference on Wednesday, September 5, Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William ‘Butch’ Ramirez confirmed that Duterte will give additional cash incentives through the office of Special Assistant to President Christopher ‘Bong’ Go.
According to Ramirez, individuals and teams that won gold medals during the continental sports meet will receive Php 1 million, while those that won silver medals will receive Php 500,000, and those that won bronze medals will receive Php 200,000.
Republic Act 10699, also known as the ‘National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act’, already ensures that Asian games gold medalists will receive Php 2 million, silver medalists will receive Php 1 million, and bronze medalists will receive Php 400,000.
Aside from these, the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) also promised to give Php 2 million to gold medalists, Php 500,000 to silver medalists, and Php 300,000 bronze medalists.
Siklab Atleta Pilipinas Sports Foundation will also give Php 1 million to gold medalists, Php 500,000 to silver medalists, and Php 250,000 for bronze medalists.
Philippine Ambassador to Indonesia Lee Hoong Wee also pledged to reward Php 1 million to individuals and teams of the Philippine delegation that took home gold medals in the 2018 Asian Games.
Based on these, teams and individuals that won a gold medal will receive at least Php 7 million, winners of a silver medal will receive Php 2.5 million, and winners of a bronze medal will receive at least Php 1,150,000.
The Philippine delegation to the 2018 Asian Games will visit the Malacanang on Wednesday, September 12, and during which, the medalists will receive their cash incentives from the Office of the President.
During the 2018 Asian Games from August 18 to September 2, the Philippine delegation won a total of 21 medals: four gold medals, two silver medals, and 15 bronze medals.
