The 1st Lualhati Cup golf tournament will go on as slated on Tuesday, May 27 at the Wack Wack Golf & Country Club, Mandaluyong City. The tournament is dedicated in honor of its chief organizer, Dr. Jesus T. Tanchanco Sr., who passed away on April 14, 2014, at the age of 83, succumbing to cardiac arrest.

The Lualhati Cup is a brainchild of Dr. Tanchanco Sr., incumbent UE Executive Director, UE Alumni Association Inc. adviser and UE Alumni Foundation Inc. Chairman. He was the prime mover and Steering Committee Chairman of the Lualhati Cup. His committee colleagues, comprised of Roman F. Floresca of The Philippine STAR, Lito U. Gagni of the Business Mirror, and entrepreneur Alfred Santiago, will carry on with the golf tourney as scheduled.

The 1st Lualhati Cup is among Dr. Tanchanco’s fund raising projects for various UE alumni causes, foremost of which is the UE alumni scholarship program for underprivileged but deserving UE students, as well as UE students who were victims of the super typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan.

Prior to his untimely death, Dr. Tanchanco ssai, “The UE alumni scholarship program has already produced several graduates. We should continue providing scholarship and financial aid to deserving students. With assured quality education that they gain, we give them the chance to have a better professional career for a brighter tomorrow.”

As a sports aficionado, he played competitive tennis in his younger days. As the National Food Authority chief administrator, he was involved in the “Project: Gintong Alay,” supplying food to all athletes. He was also the Team Manager of the UE Red Warriors men’s basketball team from 2009 to 2013.

The 1st Lualhati Cup is open to all golf enthusiasts, team and individual golfers. Registration fee is P5K, inclusive of green and caddy fees, breakfast, lunch and snacks, plus souvenir items. Each participant is entitled to a raffle ticket with fabulous prizes at stake.
